China got out to a quick start in their hopeful dominance of the Beijing Games.Chen Xiexia won the first gold medal of these Olympics in the women's 48-kg event. Chen is the defending world champion and set an Olympic record for the clean-and-jerk (117 kg) and overall score (212 kg). Turkey's Sibel Ozkan won silver and Taiwan's Chen Wei-Ling won bronze.
China quickly claimed another gold medal as Pang Wei won the 10m shooting event ... easily beating Koreans Jin Jong-oh (South) and Kim Jong Su (North).
Lightwight boxer Zhang Xiaoping won his opening bout against Tunisia's Mourad Sahraoui.
The host country wants to win the gold and overall medal tallies and has a great chance to do so. No one has more athletes at these games than China (as the host country, they are in every event) and they've been waiting for this chance to show the world their might.
