The United States netted their first three medals in the Beijing Games by sweeping the women's fencing-individual sabre competition.

Mariel Zagunis crushed countrywoman Sada Jacobson in the finals to win America's first gold medal. In the 2004 Athens games, Zagunis was the first American woman in 100 years to win a gold in fencing. Now she's repeated the feat.

Her parents, Robert and Cathy Zagunis, were rowers on the US team in the 1976 Montreal Games.

Becca Ward, who lost a tough match to Jacobson in the semis, rallied to beat Russia's Sofiya Velikaya 15-14 in the bronze medal match.

The U.S. now leads the medal count with three total medals.
