The last 24 hours of the Olympic Games have given us a triumph in the face of controversy in gymnastics, perfection from Michael Phelps and upsets in tennis. We talked about all of that during our Olympics live chat, which you can read below.
With the Summer Olympics every four years and "National Pride" constantly on trial, cheating will always be a part of the decision process. Therefore, volleyball linesmen who call a ballout, when it was in by three feet, a tennis ball deflected out of bounds by the opponents racket, and gymnastic judging that overtly raises or lowers a score is all captured on film. Each sport should have a 3-man unbiased panel to review the tape of the complaint and rule on the issue immediately. The current scenarios are regugnent to the viewer, especially when instant replay and "freeze-frame" easily confirm the real facts. We need more objectivity and less subjectivity in our judging.
