Americans Venus and Serena Williams won the women's tennis doubles gold medal today, giving them their second doubles gold and Venus's third Olympic gold medal overall.
The sisters, who were both upset during the quarterfinals of the singles tournament, beat Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-2, 6-0. Yan Zi and Zheng Jie of China won the bronze. Although the Williamses don't always make doubles a high priority, when they're on their game they're by far the best pair in the world. They are 10-0 playing together in the Olympics; they won the gold in 2000 but a Serena injury kept them out of the doubles draw in 2004.
Russia's Elena Dementieva, who defeated Serena Williams in the women's tournament, won the singles gold, beating countrywoman Dinara Safina in the gold medal match. Russian Vera Zvonareva beat China's Na Li in the bronze medal match to give the Russians a sweep of the women's singles medals.

I am really disappointed at the Williams sisters. Of all the American gold medal winners that I saw, they were the ONLY ones that were NOT proud enough to put their hand over their heart when the anthum was played.
